1.2 For items relating to the Safe Nurse Staffing Levels (Wales) Bill, Peter Black substituted for Kirsty Williams.

1.3 The Chair noted the Committee’s condolences to the Chief Nursing Officer, who was unable to attend the meeting due to a family bereavement. The Committee agreed to identify an alternative date for the Chief Nursing Officer to provide evidence on the Safe Nurse Staffing Levels (Wales) Bill.

2.2 Professor Leng agreed to supply the Committee with:

  • an outline of NICE’s work programme for developing guidance for safe staffing for nursing in settings beyond adult inpatient wards in acute hospitals; and  
  • NICE’s report on its assessment of the cost impact of its Safe staffing for nursing in adult inpatient wards in acute hospitals guidance.

Members agreed to consider any further work they may wish to undertake in relation to the Older People’s Commissioner’s 'A Place to Call Home?' - A Review into the Quality of Life and Care of Older People living in Care Homes in Wales report during the Committee’s discussion of its forward work programme on 5 March 2015.

Safe Nurse Staffing Levels (Wales) Bill: consideration of evidence received

5.1 The Committee considered the evidence received.

5.2 In light of the need to re-arrange the evidence session with the Chief Nursing Officer, and in order to ensure sufficient time to consider the evidence received on the general principles of the Bill, the Committee agreed to write to the Business Committee to seek an extension to the deadline for its Stage 1 report.
