Personal history
Born in Peshawar, Pakistan, in 1945, Mohammad – known to his
friends as Oscar – is fluent in Urdu and Punjabi, and
attended Peshawar University where he obtained a BA degree in
Political Science. He later completed his accountancy training at
Nash College, Newport. His interests outside politics include
cricket, athletics and badminton.
Professional background
Mohammad spent much of his professional career working
for a firm of chartered accountants in Newport, before becoming a
principal of his own accountancy firm. He is also a qualified
pilot. He has served as a school governor to two schools in
Newport.
Political history
He is a former Newport city councillor who fought the 2003 Assembly
and 2005 General Election. Mohammad’s political interests
include economic development and combating social exclusion. When
elected in 2007, he became the National Assembly for Wales’s
first ethnic minority AM.
